This reference handbook provides answers to students questions on writing using dictionary like alphabetical organization and a system of bold face cross references. The book has a Four-Way Access System (1) The alphabetically arranged entries allow students to tum directlv to needed information, as in a dictionary. Within entries, cross-references in bold type guide students to related entries. (2) The fail-safe Index provides an exhaustive listing of topics, using both conventional terminology and alternative terms students might think of instead. For instance, ellipsis points are listed under dots, spaced, periods, spaced, omissionsquotations, pauses, shown with punctuation and hesitation, shown with punctuation. The comprehensive introduction, The Composing Process explains prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and proof-reading in a rhetorical context, with useful advice on collaboration and peer review. The appendix, The Research Paper, shows students how to gather information both in the library and in the field and use it effectively in properly documented papers. Comb binding lets the book lie flat. Two colour interior format, with revisions handwritten in the second colour whenever possible, makes information easy to find and use.
