edited by Maira Kalman and Ruth Peltason.
- London : Thames & Hudson, 2002.

Tête-bêche format. English text with some parallel text in French, German, Italian and Spanish.
Tibor Kalman founded his design company M&Co in 1979 in partnership with his wife Maira Kalman, and it soon became known for bringing content and humour to design. At M&Co., his work ranged from album covers for the Talking Heads to the redevelopment of Times Square. Although he died over two years ago, his influence can still be seen everywhere to this day, from music videos to magazine design and art direction. Kalman's appeal reaches far beyond the traditional design community, however, because he sought to use design and the media to propel social change. Colors, the Benetton-sponsored international magazine which he spent six years editing, was his most sustained and passionate attempt to do this. Colors represented an unusual case study of a corporation seeking to use its market power for consciousness raising among the young. Circulation was more than half a million strong throughout the United States, England, Italy, France, Spain, Germany and elsewhere. This book includes at least three spreads from each issue Kalman created, along with the complete 13th issue - which was entirely visual - in facsimile, as well as sketches and layout drawings, Kalman's original notes, photos of Kalman and the staff at work, and commentaries and occasional sketches by Maira Kalman, his wife and business partner.
